Alas Kedaton is a well-known tourist attraction in the form of protected forest area with an area of about 12 hectares. In the middle of the forest there is a balinese holy temple namely “Pura Dalem Kahyangan Kedaton” or Alas Kedaton Temple. Furthermore, the temple surrounded by fresh atmosphere and natural environments. The area is the habitat of hundred of monkeys (macaca fascicularis) and bats (pteropus vampyrus) hanging to the branches of trees. Hence, we can easily see funny monkeys jumping from one tree to the others around the temple or the forest. The monkeys surely greet you if you come to visit this place.

Alas Kedaton is a very famous tourist place in Bali, especially in Tabanan. Therefore, many tourists both locally and internationally visit it, especially on holidays. The local guide usually accompanies you to look around the temple area and surrounding forest area. They all know the area around the forest as well as the monkeys. Moreover, not far from the location of Alas Kedaton tourist attraction. There are souvenir shops selling Balinese unique souvenirs. The place is also serving playground for children, and other facilities for visitor convenience. Hence, this place is suitable as a family holiday.

The Holy Temple in Forest

Pura Alas Kedaton Built by Mpu Kuturan or Mpu Rajakertha during the reign of King Sri Masula Masuli on the island of gods (Bali). Moreover, according to Sading village inscription, it told that King Sri Masula Masuli began to reign on the island of Bali in the year 1100 Saka (1178 AD). Furthermore, the temple holds its piodalan or temple festival every Anggara Kasih Tuesday on the Balinese Pawukon calendar, or roughly 20 days after the Galungan celebrations.


The location of Alas Kedaton Monkey Forest and Sanctuary is on the Kutuh Village, Tabanan Regency. It is approximately 25 km northwest from Denpasar City or 30 from Ngurah Rai International Airport. If you are a backpacker, you may rent a motorcycle to go to this place due to it is not too far from Denpasar, the capital of Bali. It is a recommended place to visit before you are going to the other Bali places of interest such as Jatiluwih Rice Field, Batukaru Temple or Tanah Lot Temple.
