A Famous Monkey Forest in Ubud
Ubud Monkey Forest is an interesting forest within the famous Ubud art village. It is one of the well-known Bali Places of Interest specifically located in the village of Padang Tegal, Ubud sub-district and Gianyar Regency. Furthermore, as the name implies, it is the home or natural of a ton of monkeys where you can walk around in the middle of fresh nature with abundant of cool air while snapping amazing pictures. Monkey Forest or in Bali called Mandala Suci Wanara Wana is a large conservative area approximately 12.5 hectare. Moreover, there are around 700 Balinese long tailed monkeys live in this area divided into 6 groups. namely in front of main temple group, forest conservation group, central point group, eastern group, Michelin group, and cemeteries group. The monkeys is scientifically called Macaca fascicularis. They are very funny and friendly because they are always facing visitors and regularly fed by the management. They can jump on tourists freely but the tourists are not allowed to touch monkeys. Moreover, Ubud Monkey Forest has a lot variation of big trees which is worthwhile to explore.
Other then monkeys, the forest is also the home of three Hindu’s temple built in 14 century and sacred by local people. Those are Dalem Padangtegal temple, Beji temple, and Prajapati Temple. The village residents believe the monkeys living in the forest are the guardian of the three temples. Moreover, the temples play an important role in Ubud area. Therefore, the visitors who are not willing to pray at temple, not allowed to enter some of temple area.
